When the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) was passed in August 2022, it was hailed as the most important piece of climate legislation in U.S. history. The bill not only greatly expands incentives to deploy clean energy towards the Biden Administration’s climate goals, but also includes a new set of production incentives for domestic solar, wind, and battery manufacturing.

But while these incentives are fundamental to making U.S. manufacturing cost-competitive with imports, factory announcements to date show uneven progress along value chains. Many challenges remain to rebuilding complete manufacturing ecosystems for the solar and battery storage industries, leaving the United States dependent on China key components and steps.

In this pv magazine Webinar, together with the experts from Clean Energy Associates (CEA) we will discuss the incentives created by the Inflation Reduction Act and how they can boost domestic solar manufacturing in the United States. We’ll also look at the progress on the ground in terms of manufacturing announcements to date and examine some of the barriers to domestic manufacturing that remain, and what can be done about them.

Christian Roselund, senior policy analyst, will summarize IRA provisions and other drivers of domestic manufacturing. He will also discuss the current status of plans for both solar and battery factories, and contrast this with the continued dependence on China for key parts of the solar and battery supply chain.

Mark Hagedorn, vice president of manufacturing services, will discuss how to select a factory site in the U.S., the importance of timing to market, and the upstream material manufacturing required to support the domestic gigafactory supply chain.

pv magazine Webinar content:
• IRA provisions and other drivers that are pushing towards domestic manufacturing
• Status of factory plans for both PV and battery manufacturing
• Strategies when selecting a factory site in the U.S.
• Speed to market needed to take advantage of the IRA
• Overview of the upstream material production facilities that need to be built to support the domestic gigafactory supply chains
• Q&A

Key benefits and takeaways:
• Learn how the IRA is driving expansion of U.S. clean energy manufacturing
• Explore hurdles to North American factory development
• Insight into key performance indicators for manufacturers onshoring new factories
• Financial enablement factors for manufacturers and domestic customers
• Key geographic locations for factory development

Questions can be submitted beforehand when registering. Attendees will also have the opportunity to submit their questions for the speakers and become part of the discussion during the live Q&A. Anne Fischer, senior editor at pv magazine USA, will be the moderator of this webinar.
