In 2022, PV module manufacturers in search of higher performance have begun a large-scale move to n-type cell technologies. These have achieved impressive cost reductions, and come with the potential for higher efficiency, as well as stronger performance under low light, high temperature and other challenging conditions, when compared to the p-type products that still dominate the market today.
Among those manufacturers making the switch to n-type is Trina Solar, which launched is Vertex N module series in 2022, and is scaling up production of cells and modules based on TOPCon technology as we move in to 2023. In this pv magazine Webinar we’ll dive into both the market background behind PV manufacturing’s switch to n-type, and the energy yield and other advantages that can be achieved with TOPCon in particular.
First, Danis Ho, renewable energy analyst with Trendforce in China will take us through the growing market share for TOPCon and other n-type technologies. As more manufacturers see the need to make the switch and avoid being left behind, n-type is gathering pace in 2023, well on the way to a majority market share. And while TOPCon is not the only option, it currently offers the best balance of cost vs. benefits, particularly for those manufacturers already operating large capacities of p-type PERC cell and module production.
With this market context in place, Jerry Cao, product manager at Trina Solar will take us through the technologies behind Trina’s Vertex N modules, and the advantages driving the market shift. And finally, we’ll expand this out to the system level, and hear from TrinaTracker’s Yuewen Pang about best practice when it comes to integrating the new generation of n-type modules into a PV system, and ensuring the advantages play out in the field.
