This on-demand session showcases the work of the National Women’s Strategy Group within Inclusion Community Drug and Alcohol Services and partners, highlighting how stigma continues to silence and isolate women seeking support for drug and alcohol use.

Through lived and living experience, staff collaboration, and community partnerships, we explore how stigma, often compounded by trauma, caring responsibilities, and gendered expectations, undermines access to care and connection.

The video shares the voices of women and workers driving change: creating safe, inclusive, and women-centred spaces; challenging myths and fear; and building services that truly listen. Together, we’re breaking barriers so that every woman feels seen, supported, and empowered to recover.

Today's presentations include references to people experiencing difficulties and dependencies to alcohol, drugs, gambling and other related lived experiences. Some content may be emotionally challenging or bring up difficult thoughts or memories, and some sessions may include expletives. Please take care of yourself during the session and step away if you need to. You can rejoin the conference at any time using the link: www.nhsapa.org/stigma-conference-2025

    National Women’s Strategy Group
Led by Inclusion Community Drug and Alcohol Services and partners, works to make treatment more accessible, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of all women. Recognising the unique barriers women face - including stigma, trauma, caring responsibilities, and safety concerns - the strategy is co-produced with lived experience and focuses on creating safe spaces, improving accessibility, and offering tailored support. Its goal is to ensure every woman feels heard, valued, and empowered to engage in recovery and wellbeing.
