Australian Schools and the Common Good: Findings from the Cardus Education Survey Australia

Join host, Mark McCrindle, Cardus Executive Vice President, Ray Pennings, and Assistant Professor, Albert Cheng, as they launch the landmark findings of the Cardus Education Survey Australia Project. The project explored the responses of nearly 5,000 millennial graduates (aged 25-39) from a nationally representative sample of Government, Catholic, Independent and Christian schools.

The study explores how our schools, in partnership with the family and community, have shaped Millennials as persons. Are they involved in civic and political causes? Do they give or volunteer in their community? Are they religious? Have our schools prepared them for social responsibility and meaningful contributions to culture as well as academic success and career pathways?

Mark McCrindle

Demographer & Founder at McCrindle

Mark McCrindle is a social researcher with an international following. He is recognised as a leader in tracking emerging issues and researching social trends. As an award-winning social researcher and an engaging public speaker, Mark has appeared across many television networks and other media. He is a best-selling author, an influential thought leader, TEDx speaker and Principal of McCrindle Research.

Ray Pennings

Co-founder of Cardus

Ray Pennings is the co-founder of Cardus, a leading Canadian thinktank. His work focuses on the public dimensions of faith, especially as it informs the work of the full range of social institutions and their contribution to public life. In addition to his own punditry, Ray leads a team of social entrepreneurs who are thinking about through challenges like overcoming social isolation, cultivating public virtue, and enhancing freedom in diverse contexts. He contributes to the conversation with research and data reports, public commentary, and facilitated events. Ray has a master's degree in theology and together with his wife Kathy, live in the Canadian capital city of Ottawa where they are active in their local church and community organizations.

Albert Cheng

Assistant Professor at the University of Arkansas

Albert Cheng is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Education Reform in the College of Education and Health Professions at the University of Arkansas, where he teaches courses in education policy and philosophy. His research focuses on character formation, faith-based schools, and school choice. He is a Senior Fellow at Cardus, an affiliated research fellow at the Program on Education Policy and Governance at Harvard University, and a former math teacher at James Logan High School in Union City, California.
