Tom Geiss
Founder and Lead Course Developer, Certified ASME & GD&T Senior-Level Professional
As founder and owner of GD&T Basics, Tom started the company in 2015 to eliminate the skills gap that he and so many other engineers suffered through after graduating and beginning a career in the real-world. Tom quickly realized how much real-world knowledge and experience was needed to be a successful engineer and made it his mission to help others overcome the same problem.

Tom holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Clarkson University and a Senior-Level GD&T Certification from the ASME. He has a mechanical design background, specializing in the automotive industry and holds three US patents in transmission design. While working with companies like BMW and ZF Transmissions, Tom became the go-to engineer for GD&T on mechanical prints.

Tom ultimately wanted to pass on his knowledge to others who struggled with GD&T and all the complexity that seemed to come with it. By placing a strong focus on teaching how to apply GD&T in the real-world (not just in theory), Tom created GD&T Basics to help others become better designers, machinists, and inspectors by better clarifying and simplifying the complex standards.

In his free time, Tom enjoys spending time with his family, cheering on his kids at their sporting events, performing improv comedy, and doing outdoor activities around his hometown of Greenville, SC.
