Dr Vardy will provide her insights into how best to detect and manage people with dementia.

    Dr Emma Vardy is a Consultant Geriatrician and Clinical Dementia and Delirium Lead at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and was awarded Doctor of the Year in 2017. She is Strategic Clinical Network Greater Manchester and Eastern Cheshire Clinical Dementia lead and has recently been appointed as a member of the Dementia United Operations Group .

    Dr Vardy qualified in medicine from Sheffield University in 1998 and completed her training in Yorkshire and the North West of England. She is dual trained in Geriatric Medicine and General Internal Medicine and has extensive clinical experience in the assessment and diagnosis of dementia. Having completed her specialist training in June 2011 she took up her first consultant position in Newcastle upon Tyne before returning to Salford.

    In her role as Clinical lead for dementia and delirium at Salford she chairs the dementia steering group. She is lead for a Global digital exemplar project on delirium and dementia at Salford.

    Dr Vardy is a member of the Dementia and related disorders special interest group for the British Geriatrics Society. She only recently stepped down as external examiner for the MSc in Geriatric Medicine at the University of Salford, a position she held since 2014.

    She has previously held academic positions and has research experience in the clinical, pathological, genetic and imaging aspects of dementia. This resulted in the award of a PhD from the University of Leeds in 2007 and has led to a number of publications and presentations in the areas of dementia and delirium. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians of London in 2016.
