This session is for both primary and secondary delegates and will consider the specific challenges of delivering the RSE curriculum to students with SEND. Garry will use examples from the curriculum to discuss the things we must consider to ensure SEN children are not left behind when learning about these vital issues.

He will touch upon issues of pedagogy and approaches such as scaffolding and specific in-class support for students. He will consider common SEN and and specific challenges to RSE that they might present. Ultimately he will offer practical advice and ideas for effective curriculum delivery in both the primary and secondary setting.

    Garry is an independent SEND consultant, having taught for 43 years in secondary and special schools throughout West Yorkshire in various senior and middle leadership roles.

    Garry is and has been instrumental in shaping SEND provision in a wide range of schools, multi-academy trusts (MATs) and local authorities across England as a whole-school SEND reviewer, a national SEND system and project lead for local authority improvement support. He has been an associate consultant for Nasen and chair of their 0-11 advisory group. He is highly skilled and experienced in individual school–to–school and MAT support, as well as positive leadership and management of change. He writes extensively for a range of educational publications.
