The 'P', 'I' and 'D' - What do they do?

The Lakeside Tuning Index (LTI) shows that only 22% of PID loops have ‘good’ tuning. The remaining control loops have either Questionable or Suspect tuning. Prior to tuning a control loop, it is important to understand how the three tuning parameters, Proportional, Integral and Derivative work in the control algorithm.
