Common Errors in Fume Hood Safety

About This Webinar

Lab managers of chemical labs have a million things they are responsible for. In the area of safety, the fume hood is the most misunderstood and misapplied safety device in the lab. Fume hoods can help minimize fires, explosions, and harm from chemical vapors that you can’t see or smell. That’s why these chemicals need to go in the fume hood. But how do you know if your fume hood is safe? This webinar will talk about common errors in fume hood safety. Some improvements in safe fume hood performance are difficult and expensive, but other safety improvements are free and easy once you understand them. We will focus on those things you have control over as a lab manager that are either free or low-cost.

President, Fume Hood Certified
Chip Albright started his journey with fume hoods 40 years ago. In working with a number of industry leaders, he has designed a number of fume hoods and has been involved in the manufacturing and installing of tens of thousands of fume hoods. He has been in countless labs and seen the good, the bad, and the ugly. The last decade he has focused his efforts on those who use hoods—what he saw in those labs he visited caused him to become a user advocate. It was clear that the lack of knowledge of proper hood usage made them unsafe. He published the book Laboratory Fume Hoods Explained and is a frequent presenter on fume hood safety at conferences worldwide, with an emphasis on China and India. He also conducts fume hood safety workshops around the world. Currently Chip is the president of Fume Hood Certified.
