As global population continues to rise, along with an increase in industrialisation and urbanisation, nuclear energy continues to hold a great stake in meeting growing electric power needs, accounting for 10% of the world’s electricity.

According to current forecasts, electricity consumption in developing non-OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries is expected to grow 60% by 2040, whereas worldwide use is expected to grow 45% in the same timeframe. While adoption of nuclear energy continues to grow in different countries, with over 450 nuclear power reactors and 398.9 GW(e) in net installed capacity worldwide, the technology currently supplies only 11% of the world’s electricity, according to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

So, how can the potential of nuclear energy be fully harnessed to increase its contribution to low-carbon electricity generation? How is technology helping to drive down costs and increase access? What are the prospects for nuclear energy in the Middle East’s energy transition?

These and more questions will be discussed at the one day webinar organised by Utilities Middle East in partnership with ROSATOM, a leader in the world’s nuclear energy industry and the largest electricity generation company in Russia.
