Analysing the EU's new container shipping consortia rules

Mike co-founded the transport consultancy MDS Transmodal, which has now been trading since 1983. He specialises in shipping, port and rail freight economics and markets. Mike has directed numerous studies for government, local authorities and the private sector.

Mike’s private sector clients range from shipping lines, major ports, rail operators, property developers and financial institutions and his work has included many sale, purchase and re-financing due diligence studies.

Anthony is HFW's Head of Competition and Regulation. He is admitted in England and Wales, the Republic of Ireland and the Dutch section of the Brussels Bar. He was ranked 7 in the most influential top 10 lawyers worldwide by Lloyd's List for 2016, with his contributions to Brexit being highlighted. He is recommended in Chambers 2020, which states: "Clients appreciate that Anthony Woolich's 'advice is clear, concise and is explained in terms that are easily understood by all levels and departments.'"

Anthony is a member of the Council of the European Maritime Law Organisation, the UK Chamber of Shipping's committee on Brexit, the City of London Law Society's Committee on Commercial Law and its sub-committee on Brexit, the Steering Committee of the Procurement Lawyers Association, as well as the Law Society's Competition Section, the UK Association for European Law and the Competition Law Association.

Stephan Simon is a Senior Expert and case manager for mergers in the directorate dealing with service industries, in particular in transport and postal services. He has led the investigations in all container liner shipping mergers at EU level over the past five years.

Prior to his current task he was a Deputy Head of Unit in the field of antitrust and has dealt with cases and complaints under both Article 101 and Article 102, with a particular expertise in the area of vertical restraints. Stephan joined the European Commission in 1995 when he took up a post in the unit of DG ECFIN dealing with competition and competitiveness.

Janet is an award-winning business journalist with extensive knowledge of the maritime industry, and in recent years a particular focus on the container shipping sector.

She chairs the Lloyd's List Editorial Board, an independent panel of experts who provide guidance and advice to the editorial team to ensure the highest standards of journalism are maintained.

Prior to that, Janet was responsible for overseeing coverage of the global container shipping industry for two of the world's leading maritime publications, Lloyd's List and Containerisation International.
