George III is often depicted as a cruel tyrant whose time on the throne proved disastrous for the nation. Yet Andrew Roberts sets out to paint a very different picture: of an intelligent, benevolent monarch who skilfully navigated the turbulence of 18th-century politics and who was deeply devoted to his country’s constitution. He also offers a reappraisal of two of George III’s claims to the popular imagination: the American War of Independence and the malady that robbed the monarch of the final decade of his life.

As always, you will be able to submit your questions for Andrew Roberts throughout the presentation, to be answered in the live Q&A at the end of the talk.
