Tech Talk: Microservices and Event Driven Apps on Cloud

ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
We have another two great cloud computing talks lined up, this time around event driven apps on Kubernetes and Java microservices.

Agenda:
• 18.00 - Building event-driven apps with Kafka on Kubernetes

Event-driven and reactive architectures offer key advantages over HTTP/REST, such as resiliency, elasticity and extensibility. Kubernetes is the de facto platform for running microservices today, and the emerging Kubernetes Event-Driven Autoscaling (KEDA) project lets you scale your containers based on event-driven metrics from Kafka. In this session I’ll show how to build an event-driven application on Kubernetes, using Kafka as the event backbone, all scaled using KEDA for improved resilience. We’ll discuss the benefits of this approach and how you can reimagine your own workloads to be event-driven on Kubernetes.

Speaker: Ian Partridge - Software Engineer at IBM

• 18.45 - Seriously Open Cloud-Native Java Microservices

With the involvement of over a dozen vendors and Java user groups, 140 individual contributors and over half a dozen independent implementations, Eclipse MicroProfile is leading the way in seriously open cloud-native Java technologies. With MicroProfile, OpenJ9 and Open Liberty you can have fully open stack solution that is enterprise grade, perfectly compatible with microservice architecture and easy to use. Come to this session to learn how you can apply MicroProfile to build robust and scalable microservices without locking yourself into a single vendor.

Speaker: Jamie Coleman - Software Engineer at IBM
