By combining 5G latency and efficiency with the simplicity and reduced costs of LTE, Reduced Capability (RedCap) 5G is poised to be the next big thing in low-power IoT applications. It’s already proving invaluable in applications like wearables, cameras, industrial sensors and automotive telematics, where full 5G performance can be overkill. Signs are that LTE Cat-1 and NB-IoT applications will migrate in this direction.

Jim Morrish
Founding Partner, Transforma Insights
Jim is a respected Digital Transformation and Internet of Things industry expert, with over 20 years’ experience of strategy consulting, operations management and telecoms research. Previously he was a Founder and the Chief Research Officer of Machina Research, the world's leading IoT analyst firm, which was acquired by Gartner in 2016. Jim is responsible for the addition of the term Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networking to the lexicon of the IoT, and is a co-author of the Ignite|IoT project management framework for IoT and the accompanying book entitled “Enterprise IoT”.

Jim is currently Co-Chair of the Digital Transformation Working Group of the Industrial Internet Consortium. Additionally, he is a member of the advisory boards for a number of digital transformation industry conferences and is a Member of the Global Advisory Board of the IET's Future Technology Panel.

Prior to joining Uptake, Curtis spent almost 12 years with Cisco Jasper where he held several roles with the most recent being Head of Global Sales Business Development and Regional Managing Director – Canada.

Safi Khan
Head of Technical Support, Telit Cinterion
Safi Khan has extensive wireless semiconductor industry experience. He is a seasoned professional in product marketing, product management and engineering development.

Before joining Telit Cinterion, Safi was a global product manager of the embedded wireless business and North American head of product marketing at Silex Technology. Before Silex, Safi held technical marketing and engineering management roles at Qualcomm.

Safi has delivered several hundred million dollars in revenue through his business and technical leadership. Safi leads cross-functional teams to bring innovative cellular, Wi-Fi and multimedia technologies and products to market. Under Safi’s leadership at Qualcomm, he successfully brought many complex high-volume smartphone chips for 2G, 3G, 4G, LTE and MediaFLO into production.

Safi holds an MBA from the Rady School of Management at UC San Diego and an MS in electrical engineering from the University of Michigan Ann Arbor. He also holds a BS in electrical engineering from Northwestern University Evanston.
