Debora Kayembe

Human Rights Lawyer, Rector of the University of Edinburgh

Ms Debora Kayembe was called to the RDC Bar in September 2000. As principal of Debora Kayembe Lawyer- Linguist, she focuses on matters involving legal, political, language issues as well as Human Rights and International Law.

Ms Kayembe (speaks 7 languages) settled in the UK in 2005 and soon joined the Institutes of Translation and Interpreting. She has been a qualified member of the Institute since 2010 and qualified for five languages: French, English, Swahili, Lingala and Kikongo. Her linguist profession led her to create her own linguistic company in 2009, serving international organisations in the USA, UK and mainland Europe by helping refugees and asylum seekers to settle within various resettlement programs as well as supporting victims of war crimes.

Ms Debora Kayembe joined the Assistant Counsel list of the International Criminal Court / Victim support section; she is included at the Sollicitor roll at the Barreau de Matadi / RDC; then join the International Criminal Court Bar Association in March 2016 and joined the language services of the office of the prosecutor at the international Criminal in 2015; She is a qualified paralegal in civil Court practice in Scotland and a board of director of the Scottish Refugee Council which she served for 3 years.

In August 2016 Debora joined the Royal Society of Edinburgh / Young Academy of Scotland representing refugee minorities. Debora is the founder of Full Options since October 2017 which has 63 members worldwide; the charity runs between Scotland and Turkey.

On the 13 of August 2019 , history was made at the Royal Society of Edinburgh from it 127 years of existence , Debora Kayembe become the first African citizen to have her portrait erected at the wall of the society which content portrait of white male fellows from the society by honouring her achievements and contributions to the Scottish Society.

In the wake of the killing of George Floyd and the birth of the Black lives Matter Movement ; Debora survived an attempt of murder by white supremacist who ambush her car tyres with nails ; as the result Debora begins an aggressive campaign again racism by launching the Freedom Walk Campaign promoting racial justice , lobby in favour of social reforms and community harmony .

On the 3rd of February 2021 , Debora Kayembe become the first person of Colour to be elected as Rector of the University of Edinburgh in 437 years and the 3rd Women to hold the position.

Dr Carol Marsh OBE

Deputy Head of Electronics Engineering, Leonardo

Dr Carol Marsh is Deputy Head of Electronics at Leonardo and has worked in the field of
electronics for over 35 years, specialising in programmable logic.

Carol graduated with an HND in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Edinburgh Napier
University in 1985 and was awarded a degree of Doctor of Engineering in System Level
Integration from the Universities of Glasgow, Edinburgh, Heriot Watt and Strathclyde in
2011.
She is the Past President of the Women’s Engineering Society (WES) and currently the Chair
of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Council and Chair of the Engineering
Policy Group Scotland. She is also a Hammermen of Edinburgh, a Burgess of the City of
Edinburgh, a STEM Ambassador and the proud mother of 2 boys.

A winner of several technology and diversity awards, in 2020 Carol was awarded an OBE for
Diversity and Inclusion in Electronic Engineering.

Ruth Davidson

Writer, Broadcaster and Politician

A former leader of the Scottish Conservatives, when first elected, Ruth was both the youngest, and first openly LGBT, leader of a major UK political party. She spent ten years in Holyrood, representing both Glasgow and then Edinburgh Central. In July, she took up her appointment in the House of Lords as a life peer. She is a published author, regular columnist and frequent television commentator.

Ruth is engaged to her partner, Jen, and they live in East Lothian with their son, Finn, and cocker spaniel, Wilson.

Tracy Black

CBI Scotland Director

Tracy Black was appointed Scotland Director on 1 January 2018, having first joined the CBI as Deputy Regional Director for Scotland in April 2017. A recognised thought-leader within the Scottish business community, Tracy regularly appears on platforms alongside Scotland’s foremost political and business leaders and has a growing reputation as an essential economic commentator.

Alongside a varied and distinguished career in the financial services sector, where she worked with top tier global financial institutions like Goldman Sachs International and UBS AG, Tracy has experience of working with a range of SMEs and entrepreneurial start-ups, particularly spin-outs from the higher education sector.

Tracy has also provided advisory services to a range of start-ups and financial services companies and is currently co-owner of Carter Vintners Limited, a company producing high quality Australian wines.

In addition to professional roles, Tracy has been actively involved in leadership and mentoring programmes, in particular working with school children, prisoners and ex-offenders. She also sits on the Boards of Skills Development Scotland, The University of Strathclyde Enterprise & Investment Committee and Chairs the ScotRail Alliance Stakeholder Panel.
