Optimization is a generic term used to describe lots of things. At face value, the term "optimal" is usually interpreted as meaning the "best" or "most favorable" way to achieve or do something. But when it comes to CNC programming, optimization can literally put money in your pocket. It can help you create parts that are nicer-looking and more precise. It can minimize wear and tear on your machine tool and on your tooling. It can maximize machine availability. It can give you a leg up on your competition. In this presentation, CGTech will discuss CNC program optimization and how you can leverage software to achieve optimum overall performance while saving both time and money.

Steven Arteman
Technical Support Engineer
Mr. Arteman has been with CGTech as a Technical Support Engineer for VERICUT software since 2012. He has more than 30 years of manufacturing experience. His professional career began at Glenn Beall Engineering working as a Mold Maker / Programmer, building pre-production injection molds. Later, he became a Tech support engineer for a Mastercam Reseller in the Chicago/Milwaukee area, where he trained programmers and made post processors for a variety of machine tools. During his 30 years in the industry, his work has involved automotive, aerospace, defense and consumer products. One of the last projects Mr. Arteman worked on before coming to CGTech was programming large multi-axis aerospace composite submarine structures using Catia. In Mr. Arteman’s role as Technical Support Engineer for CGTech, he designs many general-purpose and customized corporate training courses, supplies technical support to end-user customers, and provides manufacturing consulting services to numerous companies in virtually every industry.

Do you use software that simulates materials removal in order to verify or check your NC programs prior to sending them to your CNC machines (commonly called NC verification software)?
If you do use software for NC simulation, is the NC verification software you use included with your CAM system or do you use NC verification software purchased from an independent supplier?
Do you simulate the machine tool as well as material removal verification?
What percentage of time are your machines used to run test parts?
What is your most important reason for NC program optimization?
