About
This webinar explores the evolution of engineering information management—from uncontrolled documents and fragmented information to structured document control with an Engineering Document Management System (EDMS). It examines how outdated drawings, disconnected files, inconsistent revisions, and unmanaged changes can cause engineering records to gradually diverge from the physical plant. By establishing version control, workflows, approvals, traceability, and a controlled source of engineering information, EDMS creates the foundation for safer, more reliable, and more efficient operations.

The presentation then moves beyond document control to Asset Information Lifecycle Management (AILM). Because plants are run by assets—not documents—engineering information must remain connected to the equipment, systems, and plant areas it describes throughout design, construction, commissioning, operations, maintenance, and modification. AILM helps maintain that continuity, reducing information and configuration drift while ensuring that the engineering record continues to reflect the actual plant as it changes over time.

Finally, the webinar connects information governance to the broader goals of digital transformation and AI. When controlled engineering information is combined with asset context and connected to operational and enterprise systems, organizations create a trusted information foundation for digital twins, predictive maintenance, advanced analytics, root-cause analysis, and AI-assisted decision-making. The key message is that AI readiness does not begin with AI—it begins with engineering information that is governed, current, traceable, connected, and trusted.

Agenda
  • Recognize the risks of uncontrolled engineering information, including information and configuration drift that can disconnect engineering records from the physical plant.
  • Understand how EDMS establishes document control through version management, workflows, approvals, traceability, and secure access to trusted engineering information.
  • Move beyond document control to Asset Information Lifecycle Management (AILM) to keep engineering information accurate, asset-connected, and aligned with the plant throughout its lifecycle.
  • Understand why information governance and integrity are essential for digital transformation, especially as engineering, operational, maintenance, and enterprise information become increasingly connected.
  • Build a trusted information foundation for AI, digital twins, predictive maintenance, advanced analytics, and more reliable AI-assisted decision-making.
