Congratulations! You have been accepted to a U.S. university and are preparing to depart for this upcoming Fall 2023. We at EducationUSA are so thrilled for you and the new adventure you are undertaking!

In this Pre-Departure webinar, we are going to go over the following:
- Welcome remarks from a U.S. diplomat
- Paperwork you need to prepare and bring with you over the border
- Crossing the border (with a Guest Speaker from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection)
- Important people and resources at your new university
- Some tips about cars/driving, pets, banking, and cell phones
- Getting settled in your new home
- Closing celebration for departing students

Who should attend?
- Students from Canada enrolling in Undergraduate or Graduate studies in the United States for the 2023-2024 academic year and their family members.

The session will be recorded, and every registered attendee will receive a link to the recording directly after the programming. You will not be on mic or camera for this session and will communicate via chat.

Christina Higgins
Minister Counselor for Public Diplomacy, U.S. Embassy Ottawa
MCPD Higgins has supported U.S. embassies throughout Europe, Eurasia, Africa, and North America. She has served in Canada , Djibouti, Angola, France, Senegal and Jerusalem. Prior to joining the U.S. diplomatic corps, she worked at the U.S. Department of Education and in public schools as a foreign language teacher. A highlight of that time was her year in Leipzig teaching English at a local high school under the Fulbright teacher exchange program.

Nathan Blore
CBP International Officer, US Customs and Border Protection
Nathan Blore is currently serving as a CBP International Officer with International Affairs at the US Embassy in Ottawa, Canada. Mr. Blore has over fifteen years of experience with US Customs and Border Protection and has been assigned to both domestic and foreign locations during his career.

Prior to his assignment at the US Embassy, he served at CBP Headquarters in Washington, DC and supervised passenger operations at CBP Preclearance locations in Ottawa and Montreal Canada. Mr. Blore has completed several temporary assignments, working as a Target Analyst at the National Targeting Center in Sterling, VA and also as an Instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Glynco, GA.

Mr. Blore began his career with US Customs and Border Protection in 2008 at the Champlain, NY port of entry, working passenger operations and assigned to the Counter Terrorism Response Team. A graduate of Calvin College in Grand Rapids, MI, Mr. Blore holds a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice with minor degrees in Psychology and Sociology.
