In Trinidad & Tobago there exists two systems of land law. One commonly referred to as the "Old Law" system and the other a system of registered land titles under the Real Property Ordinance (R.P.O.), Chapter 27 No. 11 of the Laws of Trinidad and Tobago. Under the R.P.O. system title is guaranteed by the State, and if someone is fraudulently deprived of his interest in R.P.O. land he can claim compensation under a land assurance fund.
