My name is Jen Thomas. I attended University of Illinois where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Math with a minor in Secondary Education. I attended National Louis University where I obtained my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction which included my ELL and Special Education Endorsement. I am starting my 8th year teaching at Leyden High School, which is also my 9th year teaching overall. Currently I teach Algebra 2, Sheltered Algebra 1, and Calculus AB. This year is the start of my 6th year teaching ELL Math. I am engaged and looking forward to my wedding in March!
My name is Kari Ferguson. I attended Illinois State University where I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Secondary Math Education, I attended Concordia University where I obtained my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction and I also attended the IRC where I obtained my ELL Endorsement. Amanda is currently pursuing her PhD at Arizona State University in Learning, Literacies, and Technologies focusing on Statistical Literacy. She taught math Norway, Germany, China, and within the USA for 12 years. She collaborates with local organizations to contextualize math for students. The Global Math Department began as a group of teachers who knew each other through Twitter, math education blogs and Twitter Math Camp. Since 2012 The Global Math Department community has grown into a multi-faceted group of math educators who love to share their ideas related to teaching and learning mathematics.
