This session will aim to outline why breathlessness can be difficult symptom to manage, and how interventions, non-pharmacological and pharmacological, can be utilised to optimise the symptom. The Breathing-Thinking-Functioning model of breathlessness management will be discussed and how it can be applied to best manage a chronically breathless patient.

    Dr Chloe Chin
    Consultant in Palliative Medicine, Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

    Dr Chloe Chin is a consultant in palliative medicine at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. She developed an interest in breathlessness during her academic clinical fellowship, working with Dr Sara Booth who founded the Cambridge Breathlessness Intervention Service (CBIS), a leading research-based service helping patients living with breathlessness. She continues to work closely with Dr Anna Spathis, lead consultant for CBIS and University Lecturer at Cambridge University, whose research interests centre around brief, community-based complex interventions for the management of intractable fatigue and breathlessness in chronic disease.
