There is no question that workplace sexual harassment has been one of the biggest and costliest issues for employers…especially California employers. In the wake of Harvey Weinstein, make no mistake, it is going to become an even bigger matter that employers need to be prepared to deal with.
The highly publicized spotlight on the HW matter will most certainly provide workplace victims of sexual (and other) harassment with the confidence to bring the issues to the surface…and also lead to significant and costly increases in litigation against employers.
Combatting sexual and other harassment in the workplace is more than just having a policy in an Employee Handbook. It requires training, attention, compliance, and appropriate responses. There are also legal requirements, from notice to resolution.
