RAP Action Series Webinar 4: 'Cultural Responsiveness for Staff' and 'Staff Engagement with RAP'

About This Webinar

This live webinar is the fourth in a series designed to explore the 14 minimally required Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) Actions for schools and early learning services. Focussed specifically on the β€˜Cultural Responsiveness for Staff’ and β€˜Staff Engagement with the RAP’ Actions, it will look at how to take action towards building your cultural responsiveness journey, and strategies for engaging staff with the RAP. It will introduce participants to ideas for meaningfully engaging staff in building the cultural responsiveness of your school or service, and in wider initiatives in your RAP journey. Participants will also hear from special guest Carly Jia, Senior Advisor - Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education at the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL).

It is important to note that the previously used term ofβ€― β€˜cultural competence’ β€―is contentious. It is static and places emphasis on teaching about β€˜culture’ rather than promoting a continuous learning, unlearning, and re-learning journey for educators that responds to the needs and experiences of students. Cultural responsiveness is the preferred term as it reflects that this is an ongoing self-reflective learning journey.β€―
