The Lancet Regional Health – Eastern Mediterranean is an open access journal committed to advancing clinical practice and health policy in the Eastern Mediterranean with the goal of improving health outcomes for all people regionally and globally. As part of The Lancet Regional Health Global Initiative, we advocate for healthcare quality and access across the Eastern Mediterranean and provide a platform for high-quality original research that drives change. We invite submissions that pertain to regional health topics, including infectious diseases, non-communicable diseases, child and adolescent health, maternal and reproductive health, mental health, health system strengthening, emergency preparedness and response, injuries and trauma, climate change, health policy, and health equity.

About the Speakers

Chief Editor, The Lancet Regional Health – Eastern Mediterranean, United Arab Emirates

Sarah Aleyan has an MSc and a PhD in Public Health and Health Systems, both from the University of Waterloo (Canada). Prior to joining The Lancet Group, she was a Post-doctoral Research Associate at King’s College London (UK). Sarah also worked at The Economist Group as a Global Health Manager, where she led the design, execution, and launch of bespoke research programmes focused on a range of health topics, including pandemic preparedness and response, HIV financing, obesity management, and mental health. Her interests include humanitarian health, global health policy, and youth and adolescent health. Sarah has published over a dozen peer-reviewed publications in the areas of tobacco control, mental health, and substance use. She is passionate about research that addresses health challenges affecting vulnerable groups.

Senior Editor, The Lancet Regional Health – Eastern Mediterranean, United Arab Emirates

Esraa Aly holds a BSc in Pharmacy from Alexandria University (Egypt) and an MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the College of Pharmacy at Kuwait University (Kuwait). Her thesis investigated the preventative efficacy of a cannabinoid receptor type II (CB2R) agonist in a model of HIV-associated painful neuropathy. Prior to joining The Lancet Group, Esraa worked as a Senior Research Assistant in the College of Pharmacy and College of Medicine at Kuwait University (Kuwait). She also worked as a medical writer, producing evidence-based technical reports and clinical documentation in the healthcare sector. Esraa has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications across pharmacology, neuroscience, and immunology. She is passionate about research with a core focus on the discovery, clinical development, and therapeutic evaluation of novel drug candidates.
