This presentation is based upon a project which seeks to reconstruct historical systems of education in pre-colonial India. The presenters will speak of some of the methodological difficulties in reconstructing pre-colonial education in a post-colonial context. Participants will also be given a glimpse at what education in India looked like BEFORE the arrival of the British colonisers. To what extent does knowledge of pre-colonial education assist in developing contemporary education?
