ABOUT THIS WEBINAR
Session 1
Practical ideas to combine language teaching ideas and digital competences with Russell Stannard
Many governments around the world, including Spain with the LOMLOE educational reform, are focusing on the digital skills that students and indeed all citizens need to function in the 21st Century. A phrase that we are likely to hear more and more is Digital Competences. So, what does this word mean and what does it mean to us in the language classroom? In this highly practical talk, Russell will highlight a range of activities that you can do to help develop your students’ digital competences as well as develop their language skills. This is a talk packed with practical ideas that you can use in your lessons immediately.
Session 2
Situational competences in language education with Phil Ball
In the last 10 years, European curricula have begun to apply and use competence-based approaches more widely and more effectively. This shift from content knowledge to subject competences (using content as a resource) represents a radical but welcome change in education in general, and is now an integral part of the LOMLOE educational reform.
This talk will examine and illustrate with examples the particular type of competence education associated with ‘situations’ and situation-problem frameworks, proposed by the Spanish Ministry but also up-and-running in several autonomous regions. This situational and contextual emphasis requires the content to be relevant to students’ immediate lives. The competences developed within these frameworks are both disciplinary and meta-disciplinary and can be applied to CLIL/bilingual and to everyday language education.
