Brenda Crudele is the Director of the Structures Design Bureau at NYSDOT. She oversees in-house bridge design projects throughout New York State, is involved with the Bridge NY program, and has been involved with numerous accelerated design and construction bridge projects. She is a member of three subcommittees to the AASHTO Committee on Bridges and Structures (Structural Steel Design, Loads and Load Distribution, and Software and Technology). She has been employed by NYSDOT for 18 years. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University, Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering from Lehigh University, and is a registered professional engineer in New York State.

Paul Spitzer is the Regional Traffic Engineer for NYSDOT Region 4 in Rochester, New York. He was previously the Regional Structures Engineer and Regional Safety Evaluation Engineer for Region 4. He has been with NYSDOT since 1992 with roles in bridge design, highway design, and traffic engineering. Prior to NYSDOT, he worked in bridge design for Ryan-Biggs Associates in the Albany area. Paul graduated with a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Buffalo and a master’s degree from Penn State University.

NYSDOT, Regional Structures Engineer, Rochester
Katherine Fragale is the Regional Structures Engineer for NYSDOT Region 4 in Rochester, New York. She has been with NYSDOT since 2005 with a role primarily in bridge design. Prior to working for the DOT, she worked for SJB Services for 3 years as a Testing Manager and Geotechnical Engineer. Katherine graduated with a bachelor’s from Rochester Institute of Technology.

Mark Laistner earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1987. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, and Maine. He has 33 years of experience in the design, inspection, and load rating of bridges. Mr. Laistner has been the Project Manager and/or Lead Structural Engineer on 50+ bridge replacement and rehabilitation projects, including 35 LAFA projects. His design experience includes numerous pre-stressed concrete, steel and timber bridges, as well as the rehabilitation of historic, railroad, truss, arch and cable suspension bridges.
Mr. Laistner is currently the Director of the Bridge Design Division at Popli Design Group where he is responsible for managing the firm’s bridge design staff, the management of bridge projects and the development of new business. Mr. Laistner is a past ABCD WNY Chapter Board Member, serving as President in 2007-2008 and 2017-2018.

Mr. Traver earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University in 1985. He is a Licensed Professional Engineer in the state of New York and has more than 33 years of design and construction engineer experience while working for NYSDOT Region 4. He has worked in Design, Planning and was the Regional Construction Engineer for six years, responsible for running all aspects of the Regional Construction Program, delivering 30-40 capital projects each year. He also served as Acting Regional Director for nearly five years where he provided leadership and guidance to all Regional Program Groups. He managed over 600 Regional staff, working extensively with local agencies and elected representatives to deliver projects needed for the Region. Mr. Traver earned Public Works Leader of the Year 2014 for the Genesee Valley Chapter of American Public Works Association. His most recent experience, since November 2017, has been as Director of Construction Inspection Services at Popli Design Group where he has overseen the construction inspection work on numerous NYSTA, NYSDOT, NYSCC and local municipal projects.

Senior Vice President / Project Manager
Mr. Rohleder earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering and a Master of Business Administration Degree from the University of Kansas. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in 13 states including New York and a licensed Structural Engineer in the State of Illinois. Jay has served for the past 12 years on the executive committee for planning the annual International Bridge Conference that is sponsored by the Engineers Society of Western Pennsylvania. He has 38 years of experience in bridge design, bridge inspection and project management. Jay worked with the Kansas Department of Transportation for 7 years prior to working the past 31 years with FIGG.

Mr. Rohleder is a Senior Vice President with FIGG and has worked on the analysis, design, technical supervision and project management of over 45 bridge projects worth over $4 billion in constructed value. Jay has served as Design Manager most recently for major bridge projects in Pennsylvania, Maine, New Hampshire and Texas in addition to serving in the role as Construction Project Manager for projects in Virginia and Indiana. Jay served as Design Manager for the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge that is the topic of this presentation.

Mr. Nims received his Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering from Clarkson University. He is a Professional Engineer in AL, ID, MA, NY, and SC with a diverse career of over 30 years working on and leading design projects for highway, bridge, locks and dams. He currently leads Bergmann's hydropower group. As a past President of the NY State Society of Professional Engineering Society he's developed a thought provoking way to test our understanding of ethics.

Dr. Anil Agrawal is currently a Herbert G. Kayser Professor of Structural / Bridge Engineering at the City College of New York and the Chief Editor of the ASCE Journal of Bridge Engineering. He has been the past-chair of ASCE Committee on Bridge Inspection, Rehabilitation and Monitoring. His research interests include inspection and deterioration of bridge elements, robotic inspection of bridge components, post-hazard assessment using drones, behavior of bridges during extreme hazards such as earthquakes, blast, fire, and vehicular impacts on highway bridges, redundancy of long span cable supported bridges and advanced geophysical methods on foundation characterization. Dr. Agrawal has published more than 250 articles, including more than 100 peer preview journal articles and more than 20 reports.
