As with many industries, the railway sector currently faces the most serious cyber risks in its history. As ever more data is shared, and more systems are interlinked, the dangers from cyber attack increase. Online footprints grow wider, and new routes for attack open via 5G, IoT, signalling advances etc.
But the greatest threat to rail security may result from deficiencies in preparations.
Considering rail’s importance to a nation’s infrastructure, the sector will continue to be targeted, and the need for cyber resilience will remain critical. This session explored the risk and how to secure control center data and communications, discussing the standards that can be implemented to protect operations and passengers in the years to come. The audience heard from information security leaders from the rail and cyber security sectors.
