CEO and Scientific Director of the Switzerland Eye Research Institute in Lugano
Dr Roberto Pinelli is the CEO and Scientific Director of the Switzerland Eye Research Institute in Lugano, which he founded eight years ago. His current main focus is on PBM for the treatment of dry AMD, using it in synergy with nutraceuticals, to which he dedicates his research with great scientific passion: the use of select phytochemicals, featured in numerous scientific publications, has proved to be a highly effective support for PBM, particularly in the treatment of dry macular degeneration. Throughout his professional career he has dealt with many and varied clinical cases, obtaining highly satisfactory results in terms of disease stability. The success of his working method has led him to research into the modulation of light frequencies not only in relation to the eyes, but for the treatment of the whole body. His interest in neuroscience, a field to which he is increasingly drawn, stems from his intuition that one can use the eye as a portal to reach other parts of the body.

His research is increasingly wide-ranging, and he has authored, also in collaboration with other international institutes of translational and regenerative medicine, the following scientific publications, the latest in the field of neuroscience:

“A Re-Appraisal of Pathogenic Mechanisms Bridging Wet and Dry Age-Related Macular DegenerationLeads to Reconsider a Role for Phytochemicals”, International Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2020
“The first clinical case of dry age-related macular degeneration treated with photobiomodulation and nutraceuticals: a protocol proposal”, CellR4, 2020
“Nutraceuticals for dry age-related macular degeneration: a case report based on novel pathogenic and morphological insights”. Archives Italiennes de Biologie. A Journal of Neuroscience, 2020
“Photobiomodulation shows the power of light”. Ophthalmology Times, 2020
“Harnessing the power of light in dry age-related macular degeneration”. Opthalmology Times Europe, 2020
“Measurement of drusen and their correlation with visual symptoms in patients affected by age-related macular degeneration”, Archives Italiennes de Biologie. A Journal of Neuroscience, 2021
“Retinal Degeneration Following Chronic Administration of the Parkisonism-Inducing Neurotoxin MPTP”. Archives Italiennes de Biologie. A Journal of Neuroscience, 2021
