With over two decades of experience and more than 1,500 concerts across 50+ countries, Tahir Qawwal is a globally respected teacher of Hindustani Classical Music and Qawwali.

Originally from Nova Scotia, Tahir left home at fifteen to live as a wandering yogi in the Himalayas, seeking enlightenment through the purity of sound and silence. His journey led him deep into the sacred traditions of Sufism, Indian classical music, and the devotional art of Qawwali.

Now based in Bali, he leads the world’s first all-female Sufi Qawwali ensemble, Ilahi, and co-directs Samā School of Music with his beloved, Alexandra Amïe Lyons—on a mission to awaken the power of the voice and keep ancient lineages alive through creative devotion.
