  • About
Day 2, session 4 of the Primary stream is from Sarah Wassell & Laura Robinson about using outdoor learning and effective SEND work to tackle inequality.

Around 50 per cent of the pupils at Northwood Primary School attract Pupil Premium funding, while 12 per cent of these children also have SEND, with language and communication needs a particular challenge on entry to the school.

This workshop will describe some of the school’s most effective strategies, both for Pupil Premium pupils and those with SEND. The school makes effective use of outdoor learning to engage Pupil Premium children and promote healthy lifestyles. It also has a range of out-of-hours and extra-curricular opportunities to support learning and development. This work goes hand-in-hand with the school’s excellent SEND provision. The workshop will look at a number of interventions and strategies used by the school, how and why these are effective, and how other schools might adapt and adopt them.
