Computational Metagenomics on the Species Level

About This Webinar

The second talk of the Bioinfonet Series will be given by Bernhard Y Renard.

Bernhard Y Renard heads the bioinformatics research group at Robert Koch Institute, the German national institute for infectious disease in Berlin, Germany and is an adjunct senior lecturer (Privatdozent) at the department of mathematics and computer science at Freie Universität Berlin. He studied information engineering and biostatistics at the Karlsruhe, Heidelberg and – as a Fulbright scholar - at The Ohio State University. He received a PhD in interdisciplinary informatics from Heidelberg and was a long term visitor at the Proteomics Center at Children's Hospital Boston/Harvard Medical School and the Seminar for Statistics at ETH Zurich. Before joining the Robert Koch-Institute, he was a research scientist with Tron GmbH in Mainz/Germany. His research focuses on statistical bioinformatics and data integration primarily on next generation sequencing and mass spectrometry data.

As the ISCBSC RSG Turkey crew, we are proud to invite the bioinformatics research community to this inspirational talk.

"Sequencing based metagenomics allows deep insight into environmental samples and has large potential for diagnostic purposes. However, the high similarity of genomes of related organisms can pose a major challenge for computational data analysis. Within this webinar, I will introduce some of our approaches to overcome challenges in species similarity, data quality and incompleteness of databases."
