Throughout my life, I’ve been active and healthy, with a passion for sports. However, in my early 50s, I was unexpectedly diagnosed with cardiovascular disease. This not only impacted my physical health but also led to challenges with sexual performance, a loss of confidence, and years of anxiety due to erectile dysfunction. At 63, I faced another major health challenge: prostate cancer. I chose to undergo a radical robotic prostatectomy to remove the cancer. Unfortunately, the surgery intensified my performance issues and left me struggling with self-blame.
Treatments Tried
Identifying effective treatment for erectile dysfunction was a long and often discouraging journey. I tried oral medications like Viagra®* and Cialis®*, Vacuum Erection Devices (VEDs), and eventually Trimix penile injections. While these options work for many, none were successful for me. My urologist then introduced me to another possibility: an Inflatable Penile Prosthesis (penis implant). The idea was foreign and intimidating but after thorough research and consultation, I decided to proceed with the Coloplast penile implant surgery.
Life After Implant
Now, at 68- and four-years post-surgery, I wish I had made this decision sooner—it would have spared me years of anxiety and heartbreak. The Coloplast implant not only restored my sexual function but also renewed my confidence and sense of balance. Today, I am a more attentive companion and husband, able to focus on my partner’s needs rather than my own struggles. For this, I am truly grateful. As an ordinary man, I want to offer support to others (and their partners) who are facing the challenges of erectile dysfunction. No one should have to navigate this difficult journey alone. Don’t delay, reach out to someone who has walked the path you may be on.
