Employing the principles found in the book Changing Course: Leading Older Churches in a New Direction by Rev. Terry Smith, the Changing Course Consultant’s Training teaches District Superintendents and their designated Church Advance Specialists how to come alongside struggling churches.
Participants will learn how serve as coaches to train, mentor, and advise church leadership to help bring Spirit-filled changes to congregations. Changing Course Consultation Certificates will be awarded upon the completion of this two-day training.

Terry Smith
C&MA Vice President
Terry has served with the C&MA since 1981. He pastored Alliance churches in Florida and in Pennsylvania before assuming the role of assistant superintendent of the Eastern Pennsylvania District in 2012, overseeing church planting and worker accreditation. He was elected superintendent of that district in August 2014. Terry currently serves on the C&MA Board of Directors.
A graduate of Toccoa Falls College, Terry also holds a master’s degree from Crown College. He is the author of “Changing Course: Leading Older Churches in a New Direction.”
Terry has been married to Ruth since 1977. They have two married, adult sons and one grandchild.
Kim Valenzuela
Chief Development Officer - Metropolitan District C&MA
As Chief Development Officer for the Metropolitan District of the C&MA, Kim is one of the driving forces of the district's mission and vision. Additionally, she also serves on the GROW team for PEAK. Kim is a wife, and the mother of two beautiful girls.
Duane Stine
Director for Church Advance - Eastern PA District C&MA
Rev. Duane Stine currently serves as the Director of Church Advance with the Eastern PA District of The Alliance. Before entering district ministry, he served on staff at Immanuel Church in Mechanicsburg, Pa. He met Sue at Immanuel when they were kids, they were married in 1986, and they still consider it their home church. They have two adult children.
Prior to starting his vocational ministry, Duane received his degree from Penn State, became a licensed Professional Engineer and owned his own business in the telecommunications industry. Additionally, he recently completed the course work and obtained the title of Certified Church Consultant.
