Stephen Briers

Stephen Briers has been an automotive business journalist for more than 30 years, starting his career with vehicle accident repair title Body Magazine in 1993.

He joined Emap in 1998 and was editor of leading franchised dealer publication Automotive Management from 2002-2009 during which time he was named Emap Automotive’s editor of the year.

Editor of Fleet News since 2009, with the brand winning Bauer Media’s website of the year in 2011, Stephen was promoted to group editor of Fleet News and Automotive Management in 2015, overseeing the content strategy across digital, social media and events. Since October 2023, his portfolio of brands also includes RAIL magazine.

Greg McDowell
managing director, Marshall Leasing
Greg McDowell was appointed Managing Director of Marshall Leasing in May 2021, bringing 25+ years of Financial Services experience across a range of corporate banking, strategy, M&A and leasing roles.

Having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in KPMG in the late 90s, Greg worked for RBS Leveraged Finance in London for a number of years. In 2004, Greg joined Bank of Ireland and worked in Corporate Banking and then Group Strategy before joining Marshall Leasing post the acquisition in 2017. Having played a key role in the acquisition Greg led the integration of the business before being appointed to his current role in 2021. Greg also sits on the Board of the BVRLA.

Since 2017 Marshall Leasing has doubled the size of its fleet to 14k vehicles and the business is focused on providing a price competitive, personal and flexible customer service offering. This ethos is engrained in the DNA of the business and recent office, systems and people investment underpin this customer focused approach.

Lakshmi Moorthy
managing director, Arval UK
Lakshmi is the UK CEO and Managing Director for Arval, which is BNP Paribas’ subsidiary engaged in the vehicle leasing business. She is also currently the Chair of the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association.

In her current role at Arval, she has P&L responsibility for Arval/BNP Paribas’ leasing business in the UK, which includes 700 employees and covers a fleet of over 200K vehicles, and serves customers ranging from large/internal companies, SMEs to individuals. The business is actively engaged in assisting UK customers in transitioning to more sustainable mobility, in line with the UK’s transport decarbonisation plan.

Prior to joining Arval/ BNP Paribas, Lakshmi has worked with HSBC and GE Capital in various sales, marketing and business development roles. She has over 20 years of experience in consumer and commercial finance, and has worked in several countries including UK, France and India.

Lakshmi has an MBA from INSEAD (France), a Master’s degree in Business (Indian Institute of Management) and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mumbai university). She is married with two children, a dog and a very supportive husband.

Matt Hawkins

As Head of UK & Ireland Markets at Flexis, Matt leads the commercial strategy, market development, and customer engagement for one of the industry’s newest and most ambitious OEMs in electric light commercial vehicles. He works closely with fleet operators, partners, and industry stakeholders to bring Flexis’ urban-ready vehicles, software, and services to market, helping customers navigate the shift to electrification with confidence, efficiency, and long-term value.

Shane Coomber
managing director, Leasys
Shane Coomber was appointed Managing Director of Leasys UK on February 1st, 2025, marking a significant milestone in her distinguished 30-year career within the Stellantis Group, formerly Groupe PSA. Her appointment follows a successful tenure as Marketing Director of Leasys UK, where she played a pivotal role in shaping the brand’s strategic direction and customer engagement.

Shane’s career began in operational roles, progressing through management positions in underwriting and dealer services, and later leading the UK Retailer Customer Services Team. Her leadership journey continued with key roles at Free2Move UK, where she served as both Operations Director and Commercial Director, demonstrating her versatility and deep industry insight.

As Managing Director, Shane brings a wealth of experience and a customer-centric approach to Leasys UK at a time of rapid transformation in fleet electrification and operational leasing. Her vision is to strengthen Leasys UK's position as a trusted partner for commercial fleets, driving innovation and operational excellence.

Toby Poston
chief executive, BVRLA
Toby Poston became Chief Executive of the BVRLA in January 2025. Prior to that he was Director of Corporate Affairs, overseeing the association’s policy and public affairs, communications, events, research, and fleet services activities. During that time, he was the association’s chief spokesperson and guided the industry’s response to a variety of challenges including Brexit, decarbonisation targets, the Covid pandemic, and terrorist attacks involving rental vehicles.

Prior to joining the BVRLA seventeen years ago, Toby spent more than a decade as a business journalist, most of it as a reporter and editor within the BBC Business & Economics Unit.
