Following RAIL’s successful Williams-Shapps Plan for Rail webinar series in 2021, and then the Reimagining & Rebooting our Railway webinar programme earlier this year, RAIL is launching a new three-part series, commencing on October 25.
With a focus on Great British Railways (GBR) and its mission to create a simpler, better railway for everyone, the webinars will be supported by the Rail Safety and Standards Board, Trainline, Independent Rail Retailers, AECOM and Atkins, with other sponsors and co-sponsors to be confirmed.

A key plank of the Government’s rail reform package, the creation of GBR represents the largest structural change to the industry since privatisation.
As part of these reforms, a 30-year strategy has also been commissioned to set out the key priorities for rail and to develop long-term plans for the network.

Five objectives were set to place the industry on the right course for a bright and prosperous future. They include delivering environmental sustainability and modal shift, contributing to economic growth, and meeting changing passenger expectations on the post-pandemic leisure-led railway.

Following a call for evidence earlier this year, this Whole Industry Strategic Plan (WISP) was initially intended for publication by the end of the year.

It is not yet clear how the recent change in leadership and in key ministerial roles in government will affect this schedule.
In this webinar series, we will be joined by senior members of the GBR Transition Team (GBRTT), representatives from our supporting organisations and other industry leaders, to discuss and explore some of the main areas where GBRTT has engaged with stakeholders.

The first event of the series will take place on October 25 (1030-1200) and is titled The Passenger Experience, Fares & Ticketing.

GBRTT will provide an update on the foundations being laid for GBR to bring the industry together with a customer-led approach to revenue growth, while leading a generational change in how rail is bought, paid for and experienced. GBRTT will also explain how the sector can further support its plans.
The webinar series will be chaired once again by RAIL Managing Editor and Events Director Nigel Harris.

Speakers for this first episode will include:
Stewart Fox-Mills, Director of Fares, Ticketing & Retail, GBRTT.
Mike Brown CBE MVO, Chairman, RSSB.
Alistair Lees, Chairman, Independent Rail Retailers.
Martijn Gilbert, Managing Director, Lumo and Hull Trains.
Claire Falkiner, Associate Director, Rail Planning, AECOM.

Registration to attend the October 25 webinar and future episodes is free. Webinars will also be available to watch on-demand after they have aired live.
