Join Dr. Jackie Boerman of Purdue University as she presents: “The Impact of Muscle Depletion and Accretion Across Lactation.”
Presenter
Dr. Jackie Boerman
Associate Professor of Animal Sciences
Jackie Boerman grew up on a dairy farm in upstate New York and spent the early part of her career working as a dairy specialist in the Midwest, experiences that now inform her work as a professor of animal sciences. Her research focuses on determining how nutrition and management affect the health and productivity of dairy cattle. Much of this research centers on the impact different diets have on milk production and energy partitioning among dairy cattle. Recently, Boerman also began work on projects utilizing the large amounts of data that dairy farms produce, including automated lameness detection and predictive models for calf growth.
Boerman also supervises a Purdue Extension program, which disseminates information about the nutrition and management of dairy cattle through a series of podcast, publications and presentations. Through her research and extension work, Boerman is developing predictive models that allow dairy farmers to better understand how living conditions, diet and other factors impact the health and, ultimately, the productivity of their livestock.
Her teaching responsibilities include ANSC 444 Dairy Production and Management and co-teaching ANSC 485 Dairy Farm Evaluation.
