Joined by CSM Diamond Hough, Dingle will discuss how U.S. Army Medical Command is reorganizing its Regional Health Commands into Medical Readiness Commands in order to support Army Medicine’s transformation to readiness. Army Medicine will continue to synchronize and integrate medical efforts, build and enhance readiness and medical reform, support modernization of the medical force and strengthen allies and partners.

LTG R. Scott Dingle is The 45th Surgeon General of the United States Army and Commanding General, United States Army Medical Command. Prior to his appointment as The Surgeon General and Commanding General, he served as the Deputy Surgeon General and Deputy Commanding General (Support), U.S. Army Medical Command.

Command Sergeant Major Diamond D. Hough completed Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He then went on to Advanced Individual Training as a Combat Medic at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Hough has served with distinction in a multitude of leadership positions commensurate with his career field. Major General Joseph Caravalho, Jr., USA, Ret., MD

Joseph Caravalho, Jr., M.D., leads The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF), a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1983 and authorized by the U.S. Congress, whose mission is to partner to advance medicine for the mutual benefit of military and civilian health. As President and CEO, Dr. Caravalho guides the strategic vision for HJF and its global workforce in pursuit of its vital mission.
MG Caravalho culminated his 38-year military career as the Army Deputy Surgeon General and then as the Joint Staff Surgeon, serving as the chief medical advisor to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Clinically, Dr. Caravalho held positions as a staff internist, nuclear medicine physician, and cardiologist. Operationally, he served as medical officer in the 1st Battalion, 1st Special Forces Group; Joint Special Operations Command; 75th Ranger Regiment; U.S. Army Special Operations Command; and XVIII Airborne Corps. He also commanded the 28th Combat Support Hospital.
He has two combat deployments in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving as the senior medical officer for both Multi-National Force-Iraq and Multi-National Corps-Iraq. He then served in succession as the Commanding General for the Army’s Southern Regional Medical Command (RMC) and Brooke Army Medical Center; Northern RMC; and the Army Medical Research and Materiel Command and Fort Detrick, MD.
Dr. Caravalho graduated with a medical doctorate from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in 1983. He also has a BA in math from Gonzaga University, as well as a master’s degree in Strategic Studies from the Army War College. He completed an internal medicine residency, as well as both nuclear medicine and cardiology fellowships, and was board-certified in all three. In 2019 he received an honorary doctor of laws from Gonzaga University.
