As part of the launch of our inaugural curated NFT exhibition, Digital Baroque: History Meets Algorithm, 18-31 January 2022 that will debut the 4ART marketplace, we have selected a few participating artists that are making unique 1/1 NFTs with a physical counterpart to interview and we have chosen you as one of them.
  • Question 1: Your works have been exhibited and is part of numerous prestigious public and private art collections like the Hermitage Museum, Palais de Tokyo and Crystal Bridges Museum to name a few. Tell us about yourself and your practice.
  • Question 2: As you were one of the first artists to use blockchain technology to authenticate your digital artworks since 2013, could you tell us more your first digital artwork that utilized the distributed ledger technology- a “proto-NFT”?
  • Question 3: Could you also tell us more about your interesting collaboration with Scottish singer, Nathan Evans?
  • Question 4: As we are approaching the end of the year, what are some of the notable projects you would like to highlight that were most memorable to you during the course of this year?

    Petra Tomljanovic (1985) graduated as a Professor of Art History and Croatian Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. During her studies, she started curating small scale exhibitions with designers and artists. After the graduation, she worked as a journalist in the field of art, design and architecture.

    Jonathan Monaghan
    Visual Artist
    Jonathan Monaghan is an American contemporary visual artist based in Washington D.C. who works across a range of media, including prints, sculpture and computer animated video, to produce otherworldly objects and narratives. He has been one of the first artists to have used blockchain technology to authenticate his digital artworks since 2013.
    He is most notably known in the NFT space for turning the viral sea shanty Wellerman phenomenon into vivid NFT art in his collaboration with Nathan Evans, a Scottish singer. Besides his ongoing partnership with Foundation, his recent NFT exhibitions include SPRING/ BREAK Art Show in New York, Institut’s NFTism: No fear in Trying curated by Kenny Schachter in London and B3 Biennial of the Moving Image in Frankfurt.
