As part of the launch of our inaugural curated NFT exhibition, Digital Baroque: History Meets Algorithm, 18-31 January 2022 that will debut the 4ART marketplace, we have selected a few participating artists that are making unique 1/1 NFTs with a physical counterpart to interview and we have chosen you as one of them.
  • Question 1: We were keen to learn more about how you use generative processes in your work, could you tell us more?
  • Question 2: Could you tell us about your Genesis NFT and your debut NFT on SuperRare that was quite a unique piece which explored the aesthetics of form and code? ?
  • Question 3: Since the release of your Genesis NFT, Black Mamba’s Revenge, the mysterious Whale Shark became one of your biggest collectors, could you tell us more about some of the other works of yours that were collected by Whale Shark?
  • Question 4: I understand you then went on releasing a collection on Nifty Gateway that sold out in under a minute, that must be such an achievement for you, could you tell us more?
  • Question 5: Your NFT journey this year has also included collaborations with two major auction houses, one in London and another in China, could you tell us more?
  • Question 6: Lastly to end this interview, I am sure our audience will be interested to get an insight on this unique 1/1 edition that you have created for our inaugural drop, Digital Baroque: History Meets Algorithm, could you give us a sneak peak into the work and tell us the concept behind this piece?

    Petra Tomljanovic (1985) graduated as a Professor of Art History and Croatian Language and Literature from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zagreb. During her studies, she started curating small scale exhibitions with designers and artists. After the graduation, she worked as a journalist in the field of art, design and architecture.

    Brendan Dawes
    Artist and Designer
    Brendan Dawes is a UK-based artist and designer, using generative processes involving data, machine learning and algorithms, to create interactive installations, electronic objects, online experiences, data visualizations, motion graphics and imagery for screen and print. A Lumen Prize Alumni, his work has been exhibited across the world including Big Bang data in thirteen countries, three MoMA shows in New York together with his Cinema Redux work becoming part of MoMA New York permanent collection in 2008. His genesis NFT, Black Mamba’s Revenge was recently long listed for the Aesthetica Art Prize 2021, whilst Pandora Variations and Frequencies were part of Sotheby’s Natively Digital: A Curated NFT Sale, and Generative Art and The Future —NFT Digital Art Special Auction by China’s largest auction house, Poly Beijing respectively.
