Image sensor is the heart of any digital camera and it is important to choose the correct one if we want to take great and interesting pictures. The market of image sensor is very wide and it is difficult to compare image sensors between them, since the manufacturers are using their own procedures for characterization.

As a consequence the European Machine Vision Association (EMVA) was established in 2003 and they issued a standard about image sensor and camera characterization. In 2021 the 4th revision was published, and ALTER team has updated its setups and procedures to comply with the recent version of the standard.
