About
There’s a growing understanding that space-based capabilities are critical for national defense strategies, and defense demand for commercial space systems has been a key trend in 2025 influencing both satellite communications, manufacturing, and imagery and sensing.

2025 brought the announcement of the Golden Dome planned missile defense architecture, and a steep ramp-up in space investment in nations around the globe. Nations are working to secure sovereign communications and access to space-based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) data.

In this webinar, Via Satellite editors and experts from Lanteris Space Systems and BlackSky will share some of the key takeaways from this trend in 2025, how commercial companies are evolving their offerings to answer the call, and forecast what’s ahead in defense adoption of commercial satellite technologies in 2026.

Hosted by Via Satellite editors Mark Holmes and Rachel Jewett, featuring experts from Lanteris Space Systems and BlackSky.

Scot Currie
VP of Geospatial Solutions, BlackSky
Scot Currie is vice president of BlackSky’s Geospatial Solutions Division where he oversees execution of all BlackSky development contracts supporting the U.S. government and international partners. Scot also served as BlackSky’s chief solutions architect, in the office of the CTO, where he was responsible for providing technical solutions and oversight for BlackSky’s space and ground R&D initiatives in support of customer requirements.

Before joining BlackSky, Scot was the director of the Source Operations Group at the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA). In this capacity Scot was the senior executive responsible for all U.S. national and commercial GEOINT satellite operations serving the defense and intelligence community.
