RTTs are a valuable, capable, and often underutilized asset in radiation therapy departments. At Assuta Medical Centers, RTTs are involved in many aspects of departmental work, including research and roles often reserved for dosimetrists and physicists. The need for a physicist and physician real-time at treatment disrupts workflow, and can lead to delays in treatment and interruptions in patient consults. Since RTTs spend more time at the machine than either physicists or physicians, with proper training perhaps they can replace both for certain indications. Prostate radiation therapy is the most prevalent indication at Assuta (~60%), and developing an RTT-only workflow will greatly improve the department workflow for all sectors.
