Discovering Southern Peru: Featuring Two New Tours with Doris Valencia

About This Webinar

The VENT webinar series continues on April 18 when we showcase two outstanding new travel opportunities to Southern Peru. Join charismatic VENT tour leader Doris Valencia as she guides us through the birds, landscapes, and culture of her native Peru.

Our program begins with "Southern Peru: Feathers & Traditions," a captivating journey blending birdwatching with cultural exploration. From the majestic Andean peaks to the ancient Inca ruins, Doris will guide us through a diverse mountain landscape teeming with birds, including endemic species like the Bearded Mountaineer and White-tufted Sunbeam hummingbirds. On the cultural front, you’ll be immersed in Peru's rich heritage as Doris takes you through bustling markets and connects you with indigenous communities, all while savoring the tantalizing flavors of Peruvian cuisine.

Next, embark on an adventure along the legendary Manu Road with "Southern Peru: Birding the Enchanting Manu Road." Discover the biodiversity of the Andean cloud forests and the lush lowland jungles of Manu National Park, home to a kaleidoscope of tropical bird species. With Doris leading the way, we'll witness mesmerizing bird spectacles, from colorful hummingbirds to majestic Andean Cocks-of-the-rock, and learn about the eco-lodges where we’ll spend each evening—each lodge carefully selected by Doris for its comfort and delicious Peruvian fare.

An expert birder and naturalist, Doris also brings encyclopedic knowledge of the culture and history of Peru, making her the ideal guide for those with a diversity of interests. Don't miss this opportunity to learn about these newest offerings from VENT!

Doris Valencia is a keen Peruvian birder and naturalist. She was born in Cusco, the capital of the Incas. Her passion for the outdoors and birding has its roots in her childhood. She spent her early years in the Madre de Dios region (southern Amazon) where her parents managed an eco-lodge. Doris leads birding trips throughout Perú and Colombia and is expanding to Ecuador. She unites great birding skills with a wide-ranging knowledge in all aspects of natural history. She is also an avid student of Peruvian history. Her lectures on the history of Machu Picchu are superb.

Doris is the director of the Pacha Conservancy Project, which works with reforestation, outdoor education, research, and community outreach in the fragile cloud forest north of Cusco-Perú. She is also an entrepreneur and has been working to promote women in the tourism industry as guides and naturalists, especially from the communities that surround important bird areas.
