One of the great resources available to birders and the natural history community is the Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s Birds of the World. From its origins, decades ago, as a massive 16-volume hardbound series, to its maturation into an easily accessed and indispensable online tool, Birds of the World is a triumph of scientific and technological achievement. On the next installment in the VENT Webinar series, we’ll partner with the Cornell Lab for a presentation on Birds of the World and how it can be of value to our travelers. Leading this presentation is a special guest from the Lab, Laura Kammermeier, Business Manager for Birds of the World and a figure well-known in the North American birding community. Laura will deliver a live demonstration of the Birds of the World application, covering a number of topics—what it is, its history, how it is used, and how it works with eBird and the Lab’s Macaulay Library. Joining Laura is VENT COO Barry Lyon, who will demonstrate, through the display of current VENT tour itineraries, concrete examples of how Birds of the World can enhance your knowledge of birds and help prepare you for your next VENT tour.
Birds of the World is a subscription service; at the end of the presentation, we will announce a special discount opportunity exclusive to customers of VENT! Whether traveling with VENT or on your own, Birds of the World is an incomparable resource that will add immense value to your birding adventures. Please join us, Thursday, July 27, for this special presentation.
