This session will guide the tax preparer through the 1040 form, from
Filing Status to Signature, explaining how portions of the Tax Code, Tax Laws, Revenue Rulings, and Rev Procs, have made provisions for the military taxpayer, highlighting how the military life affects the tax return, explaining deductions and protections that the military member may (or may NOT) be entitled to, and helping the practitioner prepare a more accurate tax return for their military client.

- To understand key terms and definitions related to military taxation
- To review wages, non-taxable income, and retirement income for military service providers
- To discuss residency for military servicemembers and spouses
- To discuss unique provisions for combat pay

Member Discount Eligibility

Group discounts at education functions are given to multiple attendees from a single firm when there is one payment for all registrations: 3‐5 attendees = 5% each; 6‐10 = 10%; 11 or more = 15%.

There is a $25 additional fee for registrations taken over the phone or via email.

Refund Policy

Refunds will be honored if written notification is received at the Administrative Office fourteen days prior to event. A processing fee of $25 will be deducted from the refund. Cancellations within 14 days of the event will not be accepted. Substitutions are always allowed for in-person registration. Substitutions are only allowed for webinar registrations if received 48-hours prior to the start of the webinar. “No Shows” forfeit their fees.

Cancellation

VASEA reserves the right to cancel any program or course for circumstances that are not under direct control of VASEA. If a course or program is cancelled, registrants will be notified via email at the address listed on their registration form.

Judy Gilmer, EA, USTCP, NTPI Fellow has been an Enrolled Agent since 2001, an NTPI Fellow since 2010, and admitted to practice before the US Tax Court since 2013.

She was first introduced to tax preparation through her volunteer work at Military VITA sites, beginning in 1997. After passing the EA exam, she started her own practice. Courtesy of the USAF, Judy has lived and been preparing tax returns in South Korea, NM, CA, VA, Germany, and now resides in the Aloha State of Hawaii.

Her practice includes CPR – Consultation, Preparation, and Representation, along with light bookkeeping services, and payroll.
