Sr. Research Compliance Specialist
Penny Maher is a Sr. Research Compliance Specialist in the Division of Research, Office of Research Integrity and Oversight. Penny is a native Houstonian, however, she has lived in different places around the world, both as a child and as an adult with her husband and family. Penny returned to Houston from Europe in 2000 and joined the staff at the University of Houston in 2011, first in the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences Department in the Business Office and then the Division of Research in 2013. Penny is a graduate of Sam Houston State University with a BBA in Accounting. Penny oversees the Conflict of Interest in Research certification process, the Responsible Conduct of Research, and Research Misconduct allegations.

Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management/ Ombudsperson for Graduate and Professional Students
Dr. Funda Sahin is an Associate Professor of Supply Chain Management at the University of Houston. She earned her Ph.D. in operations and supply chain management from the Mays Business School, Texas A&M University. She also holds an MBA degree from Texas A&M University and BA in accounting and finance from Marmara University in Turkey.
Her teaching and research interests are in operations and supply chain management. Dr. Sahin is passionate about the University of Houston community and student well-being. Over her career, she worked with graduate students in a wide variety of roles ranging from teaching graduate courses, directing graduate student research, coordinating the Bauer Supply Chain Management Doctoral Program, serving on numerous committees related to graduate student education, and graduate student policies to mentorship. The knowledge and experiences she accumulated over the years through these interactions helped her better understand the concerns and difficulties that graduate students may endure. These insights assist her in her Ombudsperson for Graduate and Professional Students role.

Devon Fan is the Equal Opportunity Coordinator and Trainer for Equal Opportunity Services. In addition to providing trainings, she also facilitates Reasonable Workplace Accommodations for UH Employees with disabilities. Devon has a Master’s in Social Work from UH. Prior to this position, she served as the Sexual Misconduct Support Services Manager in the WGRC.

Assistant Director for Outreach
Dr. Marti Trummer-Cabrera is a licensed psychologist with over 10 years of experience in university counseling and career centers, community mental health, and inpatient psychiatric hospitals. She has experience conducting individual and group therapy, psycho-education and assessment presentations, providing mental health consultations and administering psychological evaluations. Dr. Trummer-Cabrera creates a safe place to explore life changes and challenges. Her clinical and research interests include developmental psychology, trauma, adjustment and acculturation, multicultural factors in therapy, and program evaluation.

Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School
Dr. Larsen joined the University of Houston in July, 2018 as Vice Provost and Dean of the Graduate School. Over the past two years, she has initiated cross-campus professional development for graduate students with campus partners in the Graduate School, University Career Services, the UH Library, the Writing Center and the Office of Research.

Sr. Research Compliance Specialist
Laura Gutiérrez is a Sr. Research Compliance Specialist in the office of Research Integrity and Oversight within the Division of Research. Laura was born in Madrid, Spain and moved to Houston with her parents in the mid 80’s. She is a University of Houston alumna having received both a B.S. and a Ph.D. in Biology. After conducting research and teaching for several years, she joined the Division of Research in 2016. Laura is responsible for Research Congruency Reviews, Post-Approval Monitoring, and the Responsible Conduct of Research.
