Data can and should be accessible for everyone at every income and education level. Learn how to engage communities around the most current data, key principles for democratizing data, using the data to create the change you want to see in your community. Anika Goss and Ashley Williams Clark will provide concrete examples of democratizing data at Detroit Future City and tools for engagement community advocates and residents in the data.

Anika Goss is the Chief Executive Officer of Detroit Future City (DFC), a think-and-do tank focused on land use and economic development in Detroit. In this role, Goss leads a team of experts to coordinate data-driven strategies, actions and resources to catalyze Detroit's long-term revitalization and adds research and implementation capacity to the work of contributing partners and stakeholders.

Goss has led the development of several significant research studies, including the 2019 release of “Growing Detroit’s African-American Middle Class." This comprehensive data report that boldly suggests benchmarking and measuring African American Middle Class to track equitable economic growth in Detroit.

Goss also has helped bolster Detroit’s land use and sustainability through awarding over $330,000 in grants aimed at accelerating vacant Detroit land revitalization and developing a dynamic community educational network to establish standardized green stormwater infrastructure practices. Most recently, Goss spearheaded the beginning of the Center for Equity, Engagement, and Research, which builds upon DFC’s significant portfolio of research and continues to track local and regional economic equity.
