63rd Annual ASGS Symposium and Exhibition Webinar

About This Webinar

Join Master Artisans, Tsuyoshi Nakamura, Hideaki Hashimoto and Joe Gregar, for this LIVE, two-hour webinar on Thursday, May 30, 2019 at 8:00 - 10:00 p.m. Eastern, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Central, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Mountain, and 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Pacific.

The Flow Magazine is pleased to announce our 1st LIVE glassblowing webinar through our new line The Flow Webinars!

This webinar will include THREE techniques featuring scientific glassblowing demonstrated at the 63rd Annual ASGS Symposium in June, 2018 in The Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs.

Bringing together two Tokyo based Japanese artists, Tsuyoshi Nakamura and Hideaki Hashimoto, and American, Joe Gregar, this webinar also features Erich Moraine who assisted in translating the Japanese demos at the Symposium and has graciously agreed to help translate and facilitate the Japanese to English interaction during this webinar.

The first video segment shows Tsuyoshi Nakamura sealing a 5mm thick window onto boro tubing. Without pre-heating the boro plate in the kiln, glass plate master Tsuyoshi expertly deals with the compression and tension issues of a thick flat disk being sealed to a tube.

The second video shows Hideaki Hashimoto demonstrating a side arm seal to a 25mm tube. This precise no-blow process involves tools Hideaki has devised and adapted for his own method. The results are cells so accurate they are interchangeable: they have to be perfect.

The third part of the webinar features Joe Gregar’s exploration of fundamentals. He shows us 5 different ways to make 90 degree side seals with 25mm and 10x1.5mm tubing. He starts his demo by first executing a simple, straight up manual side seal and works his way through four more methods, ending with a side seal rotating vacuum swivel.

These three science guys may refer to themselves as technicians, but not artists. But make no mistake – these guys are artists!

**This is a great opportunity to engage with some of the best artists in the glassblowing industry all from the comfort of your own home or studio.**
