Jeff is the Vice President of Design at NerdWallet, leading a 50-person organization of product designers, user researchers, content strategists, creative producers and brand designers on a mission to provide clarity for all of life's financial decisions. Over his 20-year career, Jeff has created solutions for the employees of Petco, the users of Intel's PC and tablet platforms, and millions of Americans looking to improve their financial lives with Experian. He has built and led global design and user experience teams over four continents, and once conducted a card sort in a bar by giving out free shots instead of gift cards.

Learning Your Way Up: Today's Lessons for Tomorrow's Career

Most people use the mental model of goal-seeking for moving up in their careers - "I want to be a manager one day, what do I need to do to get there?" After 20 years in the industry working his way from a novice contributor to the executive leader of a 50-person organization, Jeff is going to flip the script and suggest you think of each stage of your career as a lesson you need to learn before you're ready to graduate. Using the framing of job architecture, he'll walk you through the educational journey towards leadership.

He has also designed the components for the design systems of many sites, in order to create a consistent customer experience and drive production efficiencies. Steve’s current passion is creating ways to facilitate leadership level workshops, in order to push things forward and not just create circular debates.

Nur Karadeniz is a design leader guiding multidisciplinary design teams at Brilliant Basics. Her global experience ranges from setting up design and innovation studios in Europe and the Middle East and working for companies such as BBC, Fjord, Microsoft studios. She is a designer by training with a background in HCI and technology, who believes in the power of happy teams.
